Delaney Vet Services is a teaching hospital for veterinary students and students enrolled in veterinary technology programs. Students will participate in most aspects of examining and treating our patients under the direct supervision of one of our licensed veterinarians. Teaching does take additional time, however; the team at DVS works hard to provide prompt, efficient services to all our clients. The patients are our highest priority.
Here are general steps that our clinic team will follow for most in-clinic appointments:
- Our receptionist will admit your horse in for the appointment upon your arrival and ask you for your written consent for procedures.
- An assistant will greet you and your horse to perform an initial assessment and ask questions regarding the patient’s medical history that will be relayed to the attending veterinarian. If the health issues are more serious or complex, the attending veterinarian will perform a more detailed physical examination.
- After the attending veterinarian’s examination of the patient they will discuss the next steps with you for treatment of your horse.
- If the patient needs to be hospitalized for further treatment our team will set up a stall or pen for your horse during their stay.
- Once our evaluation and treatments are complete the attending veterinarian will write a summary of the findings, discharge notes for any at home care instructions if needed, and invoice for services done during the appointment. If you have been referred to our clinic from your regular veterinarian, we will email a copy of the summary directly to your regular veterinarian.
- Please see our reception staff after your appointment for payment of invoice.
- DVS knows your time is extremely valuable and we will do our best to address your horse’s health issues in a timely fashion.
Here are general steps that our team will follow for most out of clinic appointments:
- Before your appointment please arrange to have the horse that is to be examined in a corral, pen or stall for easier access for our veterinarian team upon arrival. Please arrange to meet the attending veterinarian at the farm or stable at time of appointment. If you are unable to be at the appointment please ask someone who is familiar with the case to meet the attending veterinarian at the time of the appointment.
- A technician will greet you and your horse to perform an initial assessment and ask questions regarding the patient’s medical history that will be relayed to the attending veterinarian. If the health issues are more serious or complex, the attending veterinarian will perform a more detailed physical examination.
- After the attending veterinarian’s examination of the patient they will discuss the next steps with you for treatment of your horse.
- If you agree to further testing/treatment the attending veterinarian will do as much as possible on site during the appointment. If they recommend specific testing that is required to be in clinic, they will ask you to contact the clinic to make an appointment at your earliest convenience.
- If your horse can be treated at the farm/acreage, the team will begin treatment and leave detailed instructions for aftercare of the horse. The attending veterinarian will write a summary of the findings, discharge notes for any at home care instructions, if needed, that will be emailed to you once the veterinarian is back in the office that day.
- Your invoice for the services provided during your appointment will be emailed to you once the attending veterinarian returns to the office that day. Please call the clinic to make a payment at that time or see our payment policy.
